I ask because the Z scale I bought for the FP2 is identical to original except about 2 inches longer. So to mount it, I either cut that T slot section about an inch shorter or I leave it as is and mount the scale with a standoff on the top (because without cutting the T slot block the bottom of the scale will have to mount below the "body" of the Deckel, on the "base" area, which project out about 1/2 inch from the body where it would mount)
Obviously the T slot block is useful for mounting the Z axis way cover but besides not really wanting a Z cover on the FP2, one could still be mounted regardless on the shorter block.
So before I cut the darn thing....what is it's true purpose ? My guess is it has something to do with an accessory, like perhaps the jig grinder head or such....anyone know ?
Whatever it is for, Deckel seemed pretty concerned about it's alignment and accuracy, as it is precision ground, plus pinned as well as bolted in place...so it sure as heck wasn't just something to bolt the Z way cover bracket to.
