Do you mostly use it when milling and at what feed speed ?
I ask, as with optional AMI box (IOB 89, in the case of the Positip) both the Heidenhain ND780 and the Positip 880 DRO's can be programmed to trip a relay at a programmed distance. ..i.e. a relay that could instantly shut off the power to the DC drive if configured such.
The potential problem I see with this, is overtravel due to no ramp down of speed and not much load during a rapid move for example. But when milling steel at slow rates seems like it would be pretty accurate since you are under load and slow feedrate anyway, typically.
ATech Authority confirms they will definitely do this with the optional AMI box as they have done it themselves on specialized automation equipment but neither they, nor Heidenhain USA can answer my questions about accuracy on a milling situation as I describe. They had to send off to Germany for an answer, which may come some time in 2018....
Thoughts ?
