I'm nearing the end of the tear-down/reconditioning of my Maho MH 600 p. It will only be for hobby use. The machine was quite dirty and looked somewhat rundown when i bought it:ack2:. But during the process, to my surprise, the machine has very little wear. Apart from a worn x-axis lead-screw nut, which I've gotten a replacement made ( the lead-screw itself has very little wear, 0.02mm towards the center), all seems well, for now atleast:scratchchin:. No measurable twist on the x-axis vertical table, the slide ways are in great condition, and all drive train components are virtually untouched . No doubt, the automatic lubrication system has done its job.
What I'm up to now and where I'm a little stuck, is with the disassembly of the vertical spindle to re-grease the gamet tapered roller bearings. There's a slight scratching noise when the spindle is rotated, which i think is probably just swarf that has gotten into the bearing seal. I feel the bearings are still in good condition, as the spindles' runout is good and equal to that of the horizontal spindle. Both spindles are identical, and from what i can tell, the horizontal spindle has seen very little use throughout the machines life (practically as new condition).
The manual states that the spindle should be re-greased every 4000-spindle hours, which I'm sure the machine is well over.There is also a very detailed procedure for the spindles dissasembly and re-greasing. The problem is.. its in German, which i unfortunately don't speak :(.
I've had a go at translating it with Google translator, and whilst it's very good at translating words, its not that good when it comes to syntax. I still prefer it over the others, as it allows you to choose alternate translations, and change the arrangement of words, which does help somewhat in making sense of some translations.
I've gone through and tried to make as much sense out of it as i can, but some parts I'm still not so confident with. In particular, the part that describes the removal of the top bearing...

The word "Aufstoßen" in this context, can either be translated as : strike, hit, push open, kick open and many others (according to Google translate). When it comes to bearings, striking and pushing can have drastically different results:eek:.
Just wondering if anyone could offer some help with this translation, or make more sense of it, having more experience with this sort of undertaking?
