FP1 2nd Gen (Lever) power feed bearing/seal questions

Hello,

I recently started a restoration on a early 1950’s FP1 and have some questions about the gearbox for the power feed. You can see the assembled shaft/pulley arrangement and notice the wear on the brass bushing. This bushing only serves as a sleeve for the pulley - why would it be scored at just one end?

Secondly, there doesn’t seem to be much of a seal on the front of the column where the shaft exits. Am I missing something? I have Wrench’s CD but it only has the side-view schematic and it isn’t easy to identify if there is anything missing.

Lastly, it appears to be necessary to remove a screwed-in retainer from the inside of the column in order to remove the old bearing race -see photo where my finger is resting. I made a tool from a socket and even with an impact wrench and heat this part will not turn. Am I missing something?

Thanks!
John
