My new Deckel FP1!

Hi Guys,
this is my first post to your forum. I am the proud owner of a new (to me) Deckel FP1. Powered table (Y and Z), manual X (head). DRO on X and Y. The mill looks to be in great condition. I have never used this machine before so I going to find out what it can do. Most of my work is small prototype parts (steel) using 2mm end mills and up. I am not sure it is most suited for small work but I intend to find out. First thing I discovered is that the hand feed on the quill is shall we say very 'firm' (with no easy to use depth gauge). I am right in thinking here that sensitive milling operations with very small depth of cuts would be more easily achieved with the fine boring head rather than the standard vertical milling head? Is it feasible or practical to move the table into the cutting tool say 0.5mm and then start cut moving the table with the hand wheel? How do you guys do 'fine operations' using the standard vertical milling head or do you all have tons of very desirable accessories that make it easy... - any tips, tricks, setup pictures to share?
