Hi
I'm new here looks like a good forum with vast amounts of knowledge
I have just bought a used Alzmetall Drill press and it works but is in a mess it clearly hasn't been taken good care of, something I aim to chance!
It is a Alzmetall AB35 HST from 1977 It came with no extras or tools so will be buying new drill chucks and look around to get some good used machine vises and maybe a X/Y table could be handy as well
I am in the process of cleaning it all up but I already have a few questions
The handle knobs, 2 are missing and on is half broken off, Is it possible to buy some new ones? or should I look into machining some my self?
When running in the higher RPM it is making some kind of rumbling sound but when I pull all the belt wheels or spindel I can't feel any wobble and looseness, except the spindle can be rotated about 3mm clockwise and then counterclockwise, but I believe this to be normal in Drill presses?
Here is a video of the sound
It is also missing the handle for lowering/raising the table but I can easily make on the works. but have also thought about putting a small gear motor drive on it to control and ease the lowering/raising of the table, I know it's a silly idea but could be fun ;)
The belts are in bad shape but I will replace them
luckily the paint seems original and is in good shape under all the crud, sticky oil and drill shavings covering it.
well here is a few pictures of it will post more when its back in prime
