I am currently searching for a mill for a home workshop and have come across a Maho 800P. From what i have read about this model is that is effectively a manual mill, with feeds on X,Y and Z, and a universal type table on the front.
What i don't know is how the Heidenhain control functions. I understand that it is not in any way a CNC controller, but more of an intelligent DRO, capable of stopping the feeds at a pre-set point on an individual axis.
The reason why i would like to know is that the mill i am looking at (pictures attached, sorry about the quality) does not have the original TNC unit (its been replaced with a DRO), and looks to have the motor drives removed.
My questions are
1. Will the absence of the TNC unit affect the auto feed?
2. How are the motors set up on this mill, three phase AC on the spindle and DC servo for feeds?
3. Apart from the vintage electronics and general wear and tear, are there any problems with this sort of mil?
What would be useful is an electrical diagram, or any information for that matter, i haven't found much at all regarding the P series.
I have been warned of a mill of this type purely for the electronics, but looking at it, it seems to have no chip based controller, and only works on relays and switches which is easy to fix as far as i am concerned.
Any reply would be helpful, there seems to be a lot of trustworthy advice on this site.
