Just fought through a rather perplexing problem that has been standing in the way of using my DNC program for some time.
I am not a wire head so solving this problem took some effort and time to work out.
Won't bore everyone here with the details, but the short story goes like this:
Problem centered around getting my old legacy software that runs the DNC for my Deckel to run .
My DNC software originally written and provided by "Beetz Software" in Germany is a 32 bit windows program.
I ran it for years on Windows 2000 Pro without issue...
However other software needs (SurfCam and SolidWorks) needed the latest Windows version and that meant going 64 bit.
To further complicate things the DNC program requires a "Dongle" software lock.
I ended up using VM ware's "Workstation 10" which allows running a second operating system within the host computer. Running Workstation 10 the "Guest" operating system can access the physical ports.
So now i have Windows7 running everything while if needed i can open Windows XP on the desktop to run the DNC software.
Suspect this is not a hot topic for many here, but if anyone is interested i can supply details of how i got this to work work.
Might have been simpler to just keep an old PC with XP or Win 2000 as a server for the machine, but i have limited space so i wanted to try and have everything at one box.....
Cheers Ross
