Hi All,
I did some work with my Deckel the other day and realised my vertical spindle is pretty loose so I thought I'd have a go at tightening it up. It's serial number 11990 which dates it about 1936 to 1937 (I think).
I started working on it and got lost very quickly because it doesn't seem to match up to anything I've seen in my pile of electronic FP1 manuals. It has a single, double row angular contact ball bearing at the top of the quill and a bronze bush for the main radial load which appears to be preloaded by a big buttress thread. It looks like the axial preload must be done by shimming the angular contact bearing at the top. I drew it up in CAD to show you guys...
Has anyone here ever seen an arrangement like this? I'm not able to get any photos of it at the moment but plan to do so this weekend.
