Questions about a Deckel boring head

Hi All,

I want to repair a part of my long-reach vertical head where the clamping T-nuts have been overtightened and damaged the metal underneath. So I am setting up the boring head I got a year ago to use for that. I have a few questions. Ross, Tien, Peter, hopefully you are listening...

- To lubricate as per instruction manual, I need to loosen and lift the bellows, photo below. They seem to be attached at two opposite points on the bottom. Are these clips similar to the FP2 X-axis bellows, ie I just force a screwdriver underneath to pop them off? Or is there a different way?

- The vertical spindle moves up and down a bit stiffly. So for example the return spring does not bring it back up but balances the weight. Is that right, or should it be as smooth and slick as a drill press quill and return under spring pressure to the top?

The head runs very smoothly, even at 6300 rpm. I also played around with the different feeds. Is there a way to set the downwards feed to trip out at a set depth when moving down?

Cheers,
Bruce
