Now that I have my newly acquired 1964 FP2 (#4652) up and running at my shop, I've encountered an issue with the Vertical spindle overheating. This happened after running at 2000 RPM for about 15 minutes. I noticed some oil smoke coming out of the spindle head. The outer spindle casing was quite warm to the touch. Not sure of the temperature (In retrospect I should have measured the temp) but too hot to keep my hand on it. The spindle total indicator runout in vertical is = 0.0002. Within normal tolerance. There is very little information in the manual regarding the Vertical spindle. There is a note regarding lube via "Oil can" but looking at posts here that does not seem correct. Should it take a certain type of oil lubrication from the top the spindle or should it be lubed upon dis-assembly with Kluber one time with no further lube? I want to bounce my issue off this group before I do anything. I've seen a few posts that say there are other posts out here that give spindle tear down and lube process but I only see reference to the posts and cannot find the actual posts that have been mentioned. Any wisdom regarding this topic is greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Eric
