Hi guys,
I went and looked at a project abene vhf 3 with the universal table and quill. Number 5565. I say project because it is missing some parts and in not 100% working condition. I got to see and hear it run, spindle sounds good.
The power feed is not functioning due to worn belts, and the wire on the contactor is cut. Is this a red flag?
The quill is really goofy with the engagement. Sometimes it doesnt engage, you have to mess with the little knob on the side and basically fiddle until it engages. Is there much help available for a problem on a rare quill like this?
From what i can tell and remember, it is missing:
head locking pin for horizontal and vertical positions
Lock down between the head and the ram for horizontal position
quill lever/handle
---horizontal overarm and support (this is unfortunate, can i find this anywhere?)
The machine comes with a box of spare parts, like dials, clutch parts for the handles, timken bearings(dunno what for, maybe spindle), universal joints for power feed, boots for power feed, operator and parts manual, new oiler system, etc.
Is this a difficult machine to work on? I have decent mechanical skill and can figure most stuff out. I would like to put most of these new parts on and maybe repaint the machine.
A lot of the missing parts are easily fabricated, but im guessing they all require metric threads, which is a pain in the ass for me. But i can cut them at work. If i discover that i need parts, i understand they are available from abene?
What should i look for as far as issues go? When i bought my 10ee i had a large checklist to go over, thanks to the monarch forum here, im looking for something like that.
Ill post pictures then too. Asking price is 2500, seems reasonable.
THANKS!
