Being lazy, and as some of you may know I am looking for a D Bit grinder, specifically a deckel, but as i have never used a d bit grinder I am at a bit of a loss as to what to look for in these machines and there capabilities

I see SO and SOE machines for sale here at this site on ebay...

DECKEL SO SINGLE LIP TOOL AND CUTTER GRINDER END MILL SHARPENER 2 COLLETS | eBay

Can someone explain the difference and what is better in terms of capabilities.

I use a cincinnati T&C so I am aware of grinding and relief angles ect..

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Deckel FP4NC

I have an importunity to acquire this machine for the price of the move. I know the history of the machine and mechanically it is in wonderful shape. The "BUT" is that it is an early 80's machine and the control boards are shot.
My question is are there still parts available for these machines? Can they be retrofitted to a different control? From what I have been told the machine is analog. If I wanted this machine I would have to decide quickly. Any thoughts welcome. Thanks

Dialog 11 - servo tuning

Hi everyone!
I afraid, I have to tune servos in FP2A 1990.
Machine has DIALOG 11 with older DC servo system: BOSH TR15 (they have pigtail card #047116).
A short story what had happened:
I had some problem with following error on X(machine was giving randomly alarm), after deep digging this forum I check and tightened bearings - it helped significantly but problem didn't disappeared completely.
A few days ago I decided to swap driver cards to see is it related to electronics. After swapping card 1 and 2 I had weird situation - Z axis started to oscillate...! It shouldn't be affected by moving X and Y card(Am I wrong somewhere here?).
What is the worst - I put cards in their original position ... but problem with Z remains.
Is there something else what could cause this?:scratchchin:

Now I'm looking for tuning procedure, but for Dialog 11 (I found procedure for older Dialog 3..4)

Thanks a lot!

Humorous Deckel for sale listing..

Humorous because of the price and the control face. Seems it either has 200,000 hours on it, or the operator tended to have dripping acid on his hands....machine itself doesn't look too bad, but the price is beyond fantasy for an "in storage" FP3NC with standard table and 3M control.

I swapped out old switches from the handwheel because it was not lighting up keys properly and switch behavior was not predictable.

Before the change X-switch didn't light at all (even with a new bulb), Y-switch was lit all the time and only Z-, 10- and 100- switches lit when pressed. After the change both X and Y are lit all the time.

Any ideas where the fault might be?

Just purchased FP1

Don thanks for the lead- I ended up purchasing the Kaste Fp1. The dealer got the mill from Suss Microtech when they closed up shop in Vermont.

I picked up the mill from the dealer in CT and got it loaded into the shop today.
I have to say I am very happy with the purchase.
The mill is a Mk.2 metric machine of serial number R-37610. On looking the machine over it looks a bit beat up but hasn't seen too much run time. All the original scraping is intact on all surfaces and the gears look like they were built yesterday and have very little apparent wear and perfectly glean oil. The machine shifts with ease to all positions.
I found backlash of .075mm on Y(short axis), .075mm on X(long axis) and .125mm on Z(vertical axis).
The mill is supplied with a working but older Acu-Rite DRO.

The machine looks to have been used little or not of all for some years and shows it- some rust and gummy surfaces everywhere.
I will got over the mill and clean everything up.
For some reason the two table wheels are newer than the top wheel...?

Here is the machine still on pallet in shop:

A short set of inch and the ten metric collets.

The mill has the standard table but came with this 12x8 UVT sine table as a consolation prize:

I have a few questions to start-
The Large fiber drive pulley is keyed but there is no pin or set screw- If I pull the rear belt cover it will slide right off.
Now my machine is missing the hand drive wheel on the back of machine- did the shaft for that wheel secure this pulley somehow?
How do I remove this collet holder? or tooling in general?:

And more important- what is the consensus on the spindle bearing grease on these old machines?
Should one open up the spindle to renew the grease of leave as is?

I don't mind opening up and getting the correct grease for these bearings if it is advised.

Thanks all

Intro and Advice about Korradi UW1

Hi Guys,
Some of you might recognize my handle from HMEM as a total novice machinist. I am retired (too early, I'm starting to think) after a path through industrial electrics/electronics and have started machining on a hobby scale. I want to go bigger.
Nearly 500km from me is this Korradi UW1 for sale for around the price of a good German or Spanish Knee mill for the equivalent of US$5000, what you pay in these parts in our thin flat South African Rands (New Issue Mandelas).
It seems like a really neat machine. I think it has all it's horizontal milling fixtures, two heads, two different tables with a dividing head to sweeten the deal.
Any opinions about the machine? I hope I can see the machine under power, probably not. What would be deal breakers on a first inspection? I don't want a project machine but I'll attend to the smaller problems. Other thing that's really important, I'm so totally convinced I'm gonna get this green monster, is how to lift it and transport it. (Should I be saying she and her?) She looks a bit top heavy, Is that a good/bad design? It looks like it can come all the way to Harrismith on the back of a crane truck, from there on a 3Ton flatbed to my home town where another guy with a crane truck wants to unload it for me.
Learning to mill on such an awesome machine ...

Aciera sure didn't transition to CNC very well...

One often thinks of old USA companies like Brown & Sharp, Fosdick and Burgmaster screwing up big time when it came to making the leap to CNC....but Aciera seemed to have mucked it up even worse.

To add insult to injury they had someone in charge of paint schemes who was thinking "ok, we got the electrical box the size of a Volvo, we got cables and hydraulic lines hanging out everywhere, we got the oddball control..check...now, how can we make these things as ugly as possible ?"

Overclocking a 60's FP1 - New VFD.

So I found a correctly sized VFD for my FP1 that I can mount on the machine where I can get at it, instead of the 7.5HP unit that resides on the floor. This means setting up the new Hitachi VFD with limits. The old one was set to 60Hz max - it still has the original Siemens motor.

Has anybody set their VFD higher than 60Hz and does anybody have an opinion on setting it higher. Usually it is set and forget so this will be an opportune moment.

Thanks

Help programming Deckel 5axis DMU

Does anyone have expierence programming a five axis Deckel DMU(mori-sieki)? We are expierencing difficulty with the cycle 800 and getting it to do what we want it to.

Some questions from a newbie...

After some practicing/familiarising with my FP3nc, I decided to do some maintenance around, like changing the oil, cleaning the bedways, bellows etc....
Can anybody tell me the exact amount of oil to pour in the vertical spindle(3150rpm), 'cause the referring page is missing from my manual?
I read in some older posts, that the z-axis noise is probably due to dirt on the servomotor brushes....Is this up to date? I am going to clean them tommorow...

However, my major concern is another noise...I have been hearing it since i first used the fp3, but waited to be sure that is not something temporary...
The gearbox sounds problematic (gear problem?) in the following speeds 50-100-200-400-800-1600-3150...Do these speeds have something common?(gear, shaft):scratchchin:

Thanks in advance

Hi all
Sorry to to keep asking as I have not been able to source a new hs9338 chip for my machine i am hoping to build one up using three available chips
my request comes in the form has anybody got a legible copy of the NRP53 schematic drawing no 6006 04 100679 00 . My copy is to blurry to make out the pin nos or functions . My machine has a contour 2 controller but I believe this board was common to some other controlers.
If I have success I will post the details on a new thread. thanks for looking

Aciera F3: What is ist worth? How hard is it to get spare parts?

$

Dear experts

Allow me to introduce myself by asking some newbie questions that will probably be best answered by "It depends". I'm a hobbyist, into metal working especially for old cars. I've done very little work on a Schäublin 102 lathe (which I will inherit some day!) and am now looking at an Aciera F3 mill but am (of course) not sure about the investment, since this is only a hobby and the machine won't be used too much...

  • It seems to be a first gen mill from the 50s I would guess.
  • This is what it looks:

Name:	universalfraesmaschine-aciera-f3.jpg
Views:	54
Size:	34.0 KB
ID:	63702
  • The overall condition seems to be quite good, makes no funny noises, no rust...

BUT:
  • It comes with pretty much no accessories, only a horizontal milling head in addition to the vertical one
  • The power-feed is broken
  • So is the coolant pump

So, as the subject says: What is is worth? How difficult will it be to get spare parts (power-feed, coolant pump)?

Thanks!

Saw a Ferrari F43 at HGR

Stopped in at HGR yesterday on my way through Ohio. Saw this machine so I grabbed the camera and took a few photos. I've heard of Ferrari machines but this is the first I've seen. It was a smash and grab visit so I didn't have any time to investigate. Sorry about the crappy photos but I only had a pocket camera and it was especially dark at that spot in the warehouse. Anyone have any info to share about this?
