Internals of Aciera F1 Simple Dividing Head

$

I cannot find a reasonably priced dividing head quill for my F1 (have been looking) so I am thinking of making one. I have to swivel base and the tailstock plus the disk with 60 notches. Just missing the 35 mm quill. Fortunately, the manual has a nice scaled drawing, which is helpful for the back end. I would be grateful if someone could provide info on the quill (spindle) of the dividing head. One would have had to take it apart to see the insides:
1) if the front cone is shaped like the back one ie taper of 20 degrees
2) diameter of quill body between cones
3) steel or bronze cones/bushings?
4) any other insights and measurements appreciated.

Thanks!

Daniel

FP1 saddle removal

I need to remove the Splineshaft and possibly the Elevating screw on my FP1 in order to change a broken shaft in the table feed gearbox. I suppose I need to remove the saddle in order to remove these 2 components?

I removed the Ram and then operated the crank to elevate the saddle to its upper most position. Is the saddle supposed to then just lift off the column? I can't seem to budge the saddle....any advice?

Thanks!

Variable Feed Drive - Maho SK250

$

Can anybody help with an explanation of how the variable feed drive actually works ?
I have acquired an SK250 and one of its faults is that the feed to the table doesn't work. I've stripped the drive box out of the machine and discovered a broken "shear pin" at the bevel drive end. I'm not convinced that this is the only problem as there was no indication that the "outputshaft" was turning while the machine was running. I've never seen a box like this before, it has springs, plungers and an adjustable "ramp" system which presumably controls the speed. Now after inspection there's no damaged/broken parts and i am wondering if this type of drive uses oil pressure to pre-load the spring system and if so could it be something as simple as in-sufficient oil in the box to enable it to function properly.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of drive and could point me in the right direction ? I was wondering if the Deckel FP1 which is similar had the same type of drive.

Fabricating FP1 vertical draw bar; Heat Treat Question.

$

I'm in the process of fabricating the vertical draw bar for the FP1. I have the bar finished except for the internal butress thread, which I plan to cut this weekend. I used a piece of 1045 TPG I had laying around in the shop, but didn't think about the dimensions changing during the heat treating process until now.

I've been told to expect the part to swell by .001 to .002 and I'm wondering if this is true? If so, does anyone see this being a problem with the thread clearance? Should I take this much movement into consideration when cutting the threads or do I start over with a different material?

Thanks,
gm.

deckel FP1 junker - worth buying?

I am being offered several machine tools, among them an FP1. I know nothing about these machines except for a cursory scan of Tony's page. Looks like a neat tool, except this one appears to be missing the cool accessories that make it work. I can probably get this for scrap value. There may not be anything more with it than what is shown in the (poor) photos. Should I even mess with this at say, $200 ? Any input welcome. G0 and G1 commands are not working

I have Deckel CNC Milling Machine. Model FP4AT Dialog 11 Control.
We are facing problem, that G0 and G1 commands are not working.

Machine is working well in manual mode means
Manually all axes are working fine.
Home function is also working fine.
Spindle is working well in automatic mode.

but when i give command G0 and G1 on any axis (X, Y, Z). Suppose if we give command
to X axis separately;

G0 X10,
or
G1 X30 F1000

then the machine travels in x-axis about 0.2 ~ 0.25mm (shows on display of dialog 11) ant then axis stopped and machine goes to hanged / command not finished. for next operation it needs to restart the hydraulic.

If i give command to any axis X, Y, Z.

G0 X0.2
or
G1 X0.2 F1000

It is EXECUTED well in all axes (x,y,z) and command is completed / finished.

Dear if you dont have information about Dialog 11 Control then please help me about general information, how to trouble shooting GO and G1 command.

Please also help me how to interface Grundig Dialog 11 PLC.

Thanking you

Here are some current pics of my Abene mill; Finished painting the last big piece on Saturday and cleaned up the shop in preparation for working on the smaller pieces and reassembly. There are a couple of parts that have to be scraped but will do this as i come to them in the assembly process. I should put in a plug for Richard King here as I went to his recent scraping class in Pine Mountain, GA. The class was really good and I was lucky enough to persuade Richard to scrape and flake the vertical ways of the base. Should be a picture of me scraping the knee at the class.

Finshed Acura Flex Holder and Vertical Draw Bar For FP1

$

Have a complete set of Acura Flex collets that I wanted to use on the newly finished FP1. Bought an Acura Flex collet holder that had a 6" x 1.25" straight shank. Used the original Deckel horizontal arbor to indicate in the taper attachment on my Hardinge TL and cut the MT4. Next I had to build a plug for the end that had left hand threads on one end and the 20 x 2.00 buttress on the other. Used the Opti-Dress on my surface grinder to profile the wheel for the appropriate angles to grind the cutting tools to make the threads.

Next I needed to build a draw bar for the vertical head. Used some 1045 I had and flame hardened the wrench end and knurled a piece of 304 stainless for the knob. Finished it with a No.2 taper pin as called for on the plans that Paul Churchill so kindly sent me. (Thanks Paul!!!)

Turned out well. Learned a lot on this project.

Thanks again for all the advice.

I just sold my Thiel TH 140 and realized it is the smallest "real" milling machine I ever had
With real I meanat least with powerfeeds and rapids on all 3 axes
This machine has a XYZ of 300-220-350mm
Is this really the smallest or is there another one

I have been absent for quite awhile due to work then illness then more work then a flood that took most of my place away. Thanks to a fellow forum member who invited me to his shop recently I have gotten back at it. Here is a recent addition that arrived today. Have a few issues to sort out with the 480V motor, but hope to have it down in the new shop (basement) this weekend and up an running in a few weeks.

Deckel FP4NC to FP4M conversion

Hi ,

I am about to buy a deckel FP4NC , in excellent mechanical condition, however electronically don't know, after going through various posts, I am mentally prepared that in most probable condition controller may not be working, and not much intrested to put controller under operation , as we have a VMC , however would be more interested to start the mc in manual mode.

could anyone help on this , what all I need to do to be able to put it under manual Operation, I should be able to operate all spindle speeds & feeds.
