Wow...yet another Deckel like mill I was unaware of.... from Spinner in Germany...

Having owned a Spinner turning center I was well aware of the company but until today I had no idea they offered Deckel style mills. Amazing there must be enough demand for new Thiel style mills in 2019 in Europe to justify production. Especially bizarre that the smallest one looks more like a first or second generation FP1 rather than the later Activ machines.

Deckel FP2 Slotting Head - Head removal

$

Hi folk

Well, further to my previous thread on the identity differences between the FP1 and FP2 Slotting Head I went ahead a bought the FP2 Head I was watching on eBay.

Yesterday I made a 500 mile round trip to collect it. Like most of these items it showed little sign of use and there was alot of congiled oil present - so much so the ram was solid when I attempted to turn the gear shaft.

Thinking this was nothing more the a lubrication problem I took it. The owner also showed me the head rotated but he'd slackened off the four back nuts too much that two of the "T" nuts had dropped inside.

I've now removed the other two nuts and want to remove the "Head" from the "Body" casting but sadly can't.

Is there anything I've missed to separate the two??

Many thanks

Hilma clone identifaction?

Is anyone here able to identify this vise? The plate is very worn. I have asked the seller for more info and pictures straight on, I can perhaps tweak it in photoshop then and get some info on it. I am interested in this vice but I was told by Bruce that some of these clones I might not be able to get replacement parts for so if they leak and I cannot get new parts, it's just scrap.

Deckel FP2NC retrofit

Hi everyone ,
as a new and proud owner of a Deckel FP2NC, I'll start with a retrofit .
The machine was bought without the control box for the dialog and no cards in the main control box .
Right now I'm drawing a replacement box for the HMI bits and I'll need some dimensions from the original box.
Could anybody with a Deckel like that take some dimensions and pictures of the controls ?

Thank you in advance .

Hi everyone. I plan on installing a VFD on my newly acquired FP2. I have 1 phase 230V available (Canada). I am not sure where to start. I have attached a picture of the motor name plate. It looks like a 550V 3HP motor. Do I need a VFD that will output 550V?

Dialog 11 FP50CC/T Pressure Monitoring Gear: Position or Belt Tightener Error

One problem lead to more problems in rapid succession.
I was machining flats on shafts. Staring the mill, move, stop, rotate shaft, start, move, stop.

I turned on the spindle at 864rpm, it spun up and the hydraulic pump turned on. It stayed on for about 5 seconds before I got an error, 1408: Pressure monitoring: Gear position or belt tightener.

The tensioner did not drop during that period, the wheel to tighten the belt on the spindle, and the motor stopped and gave me the error. I also checked that I had oil in the reservoir.

I tried this about 3 times, getting the same error, then thought to drop the RPM to 790, the low gear speed. The motor worked in low gear. I had a lathe that needed tending to and when I returned I got another error, Cyclometric error on the Z axis and loss of position control on the Z axis. I homed Y, X, then when I homed Z it did a rapid motion in the Z axis even with the feed/speed dials to 0 and the turret crashed into the top of the machine* before I hit the power kill button.

I am unsure what is going on with these seemingly independent errors, but I will update what happens. I did have a cyclometric error in the past on the X axis due to debris in the linear encoder, however I find it very odd that a spindle hydraulics error lead to an encoder error to a speed/feed/control error within 10 minutes.

*The shield around the turret has bent out over the years for no good reason and there isn't an easy way to pull it back. When the shield moves all the way to the top it barely slides by the white bar. We have taken to poking the shield with a stick or tool to get it to home in the Z. We are currently installing a bracket to push the shield into the proper position.

Deckel clone for sale in Finland, identification?

I found this obvious clone of a Deckel for sale in Finland
Metallijyrsin, Työkoneet, Työko...

I wasn't sure if I should post this in the for sale thread or not, I got the impression it's mainly for stuff one sells personally... But I don't think we got many finnish users here. I am mainly curious if anyone can identify it. Seems a good price by finnish standards, equipment is expensive here, and it has some accessories I would dearly love to have, like the rotary table.

With Ross getting lazy lately (;)), it seems like I don't have enough of my weekly machine porn fix anymore...

I'm not too much of a social networks guy, but if you feel like me and you NEED to see beautiful machines and work now and then, I highly suggest you register on Facebook and pay a visit to Rüdiger Kramer on KB Maschinenservice...

I don't think you'll regret it.

Deckel FP4A Contour 1 advice requested

Dear All,

I have been offered a Deckel FP4A Contour 1 and would like to get more information about this tool.
So far I understand it is 2-1/2 D (X can always move and Y/Z depending on the selection)
Contour 1 doesn't seem to have the RS232 interface yet.

Any additional info would be highly appreciated.
I am looking for the user manuals and electrical schematics.
Also info on if the parameters are stored in 'battery' fed memory (which gets lost if the battery is empty) would be very usefull.

Thanks in advance,

EmcoDeckel

Hello.

The power-up check screen shows that drive 1 LMS has failed. And on the screen after that there is this error: "ERR I 05,X 01".

Any help would be appreciated.

Deckel 11, milling head not in base position

Deckel fp50cc/t. 2207: Milling head not in base position. I can't get it to start. Turning it on had a whole host of errors which I solved by restarting the plc.

After my success with getting my Hardinge lathe converted to Linux CNC I am going to change this mill over. I never had the tool changer working on the machine. All I need to control is hydraulics, pneumatics, lubricants, spindle, spindle gearboxes, and axis. I feel I can handle that. If that works I will move onto the horizontal spindle and, if I am crazy, the tool changer.

I rebuilt a Hardinge Superslant, but I don't have SOP information

What I would like are: any copies of the ladder logic code for a dialog 11 or diagrams of how the spindle speed controller works or how to solve a milling head not in base position?

I just picked up a Aciera 22-S1 for the shop.

Looks like a nice bit of kit.
I got this for general drill press work.
This has the V head so no power down feed but I feel like at such a uncommon type I took what showed up on market.

cutting a rack on a Deckel

$

Hi to all,

since long I have considered how one could cut a gear rack on a Deckel (my FP2 in particular). Currently, we (along with my friend Kyriakos) have started repairing two HLVHs, the rack being one of the things that need to be replaced.

We got a competitive quote from a gear cutter guy, so we'll outsource the part. However, for the sake of completeness, I still would like to have a way to do this on the FP2.

The thing is that, I can't find a sane way to set the work up. The optimal approach would be to use a rack cutting attachment, like this Brown-Sharpe item shown here:

This thing has a very low profile casting so that the spindle ends up very close to the table, enough to be able to fit a gear cutter that could clear the head and actually be able to cut.

On the FP2, this is not easily accomplished. Regular vertical head is fat enough, fatter than the cutter. The angular spindle head fits perfectly in terms of dimensions, however I don't think it should be assigned such a task, due to the sensitive MT1 spindle. Doesn't feel right to put a gear cutter on a MT1 arbor and cut a rack on steel, but I might be wrong.

Horizontal spindle is not an option for anything but very short racks.
Working along Z also doesn't provide any gains, still the clearance issues with the vertical head.

If I HAD to run such a job, I would prepare a fly-cutter type tool that would clear the OD of the vertical spindle (cut a tooth off a gear cutter and braze it onto a shank, and fit it on a fly cutter). Then flip the vertical head 90 deg and work exactly like in the Brown-Sharpe image. I would not feel very comfortable running this cutter and, I guess, it would also wear out rapidly (since there is one cutting edge only), but if the arbor is short it might work. Can't think of anything else though...

(indexing is another story, actually I had thought about indexing the new part off a fixture that would employ a small, unworn, portion of the original rack to be copied. Would not rely on the DRO, but, as I said, this is another discussion).

Would really like to see how the forum has done (or has considered doing) such an operation, I might be missing something.

BR,
Thanos

Deckel Tooling On The Cheap

$

Hi everyone. I'm trying to make sense of all the different collet/tool holders that will fit my FP2. I would like to find a face mill arbor that I can fit my 80mm index face mill, like this one:
BAP 400R-80-27-6F Indexable Face Milling Cutter 6Flute + 10x APMT1604PDER Insert | eBay This face mill has a 27mm hole on the back of it. There are so many 40 tapers, I'm not sure where to start. I know that I can get M16 S20x2 pull studs, but which arbors will they fit into? There is SK40, NT40, BT40, DIN 69871, I'm sure that I'm missing a few. For instance, do all SK40 arbors have M16 threads in the small taper hole side?

Note the Deckel like mill that seems to be benchtop size. Does anyone know what this machine is?

Universal table on a Deckel or Maho

Hi All,

I have been thinking about buying a Deckel or Maho
for a long time.

If I opt for the universal table how much does it reduce
rigidity?

I assume that the universal table allows for you to adjust
most errors due to wear - is that true?

Do Maho Mills have Angular Contact Bearings on their Spindles

$

Hi All,

Still working on my quest for a good Euro mill that fits
my budget.

Do Maho Mills have Angular Contact Bearings on their Spindles?

I don't want a spindle that uses the spindle itself to run
needle bearings on. From a previous post I found out that
many Deckels, except for the flip head, use the spindle/needle
bearing configuration.

Happy Memorial Day,

Paul
